Some people have sent in feedback asking me how Warfish is made. So, here is a little blurb about “The Making of Warfish” which sounds a lot grander than it actually is. Warfish is made on my computer at home:

The photo is a little dark since it was taken at night, which happens also to be the time of day when I usually work on Warfish. This is also where I respond to any feedback you send in. When I get enough feedback requesting a new feature I then draft up some “design docs”:

It feels a little strange to be describing the backs of used printer paper as “design docs”. In any case the photo above shows some of the actual sketches for a new profile feature that is currently being worked out. Almost every feature starts out this way and after working it out with a couple sketches the feature is then added to the site.
Working on Warfish has been a great learning experience as I hadn’t made any games before this and along the way I’ve met many really passionate and creative people who have helped to make Warfish better. Thank you. If you’ve got an idea/project of your own, I’m no expert but if it would be helpful, I would be happy to share more about what I’ve learned from working on Warfish. It really doesn’t take much to get a project like this started, in fact Warfish started on just a $9.95/month web hosting account.
